Russian Comfrey prefers consistent moisture, especially during its active growing season. Water deeply when the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering in fall and winter when the plant becomes dormant.

Pruning is primarily done to manage its size and to encourage re-blooming. Cut back flower stalks after they fade. In late fall, after the first hard frost, cut the entire plant down to the ground.

This tidies the garden and prevents disease carry-over.

Russian Comfrey is easily propagated from root cuttings or division. In early spring, dig up a mature plant and divide the root ball, ensuring each piece has at least one bud.

Alternatively, cut sections of thick root in late winter or early spring and plant them horizontally just below the soil surface.

Established plants are best left undisturbed in the ground due to their extensive root systems.

If container growing is necessary, repot in early spring every 2-3 years into a larger container with fresh, well-draining potting mix. Ensure the new pot is deep enough to accommodate its taproot.
