Water regularly during the establishment phase and periods of active growth. Once established, Cootamundra Wattle is drought-tolerant. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, especially in warmer months.

Reduce watering significantly in winter to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Prune after flowering to maintain shape, size, and encourage denser growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches.

Heavy pruning can be done to rejuvenate older plants, but avoid cutting back into old wood if possible, as regeneration may be slow. Wear protective gear as the foliage can be prickly.

Propagate from seed, which requires scarification (nicking the seed coat or soaking in hot water) to break dormancy. Sow seeds in a well-draining seed-starting mix in spring.

Cuttings can also be taken from semi-hardwood in late summer, but are generally more difficult to root than from seed.

Young plants may require repotting every 1-2 years into a slightly larger container, typically in spring. Use a well-draining potting mix.

Acacias generally dislike being disturbed; once established, they prefer to be planted in their final location and are not keen on frequent repotting.
