Soft Rush thrives in consistently moist to wet conditions. Water regularly to keep the soil saturated, especially during warmer months. It can tolerate standing water, making it ideal for bog gardens or pond edges.

Reduce watering slightly in winter if the plant is not actively growing.

Prune Soft Rush in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Cut back old, dead, or yellowed stems close to the ground. This encourages vigorous new growth and maintains the plant's tidy appearance.

Remove any decaying foliage to prevent disease.

Juncus effusus is easily propagated by division. In spring, carefully divide established clumps into smaller sections, ensuring each division has roots and shoots.

Replant the divisions immediately into moist soil, watering well to help them establish. Seed propagation is also possible but less common for home growers.
