Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Maintain consistently moist substrate, mimicking natural swampy conditions. Avoid waterlogging the tubers. During dormancy, reduce watering significantly but do not allow the soil to dry out completely.
Ensure good water circulation to prevent stagnation, especially in still aquarium setups.
Remove any decaying or yellowing leaves promptly to maintain plant health and aesthetic appeal. Trim back any excessively long or leggy leaves. Pruning is generally minimal; focus on removing senescent foliage.
Avoid disturbing the tuber unless absolutely necessary.
Propagation is primarily through tuber division. When repotting during its dormant phase, carefully separate the tuber into smaller sections, ensuring each piece has at least one bud. Plant these sections individually.
Seeds can also be produced in suitable conditions but are less common for home propagation.
Repot Aponogeton boivinianus when it becomes overcrowded or the substrate is depleted, typically every 1-2 years. The best time to repot is during its dormant period, after flowering has ceased.
Use a well-draining but nutrient-rich substrate, such as a mix of loam, sand, and peat.
