Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water thoroughly when the potting medium is nearly dry, typically every 7-10 days during the growing season. Reduce watering significantly in winter, allowing the substrate to dry out more between waterings.
Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Ensure good drainage.
Pruning is generally minimal for Angraecum chamaeanthus. Remove spent flower spikes and any dead or yellowing leaves at the base of the plant. This helps maintain a tidy appearance and prevents potential disease.
Sterilize pruning tools.
Propagation is primarily achieved through division of mature, overgrown clumps during repotting. Carefully separate the divisions, ensuring each has healthy roots and at least a few pseudobulbs.
Allow the cut surfaces to callus before repotting.
Repot every 2-3 years, or when the potting medium begins to break down. The best time is in spring after flowering. Use a well-draining orchid mix, such as bark and charcoal.
Choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the root ball.
