Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water thoroughly when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering slightly during cooler months, but avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
Good drainage is crucial to prevent root rot.
Prune to maintain desired shape and size, and to remove any dead or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done anytime, but heavier pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
This encourages bushier growth.
Macaranga peltata can be propagated from seeds sown in well-draining soil, or from semi-hardwood cuttings taken in summer. Cuttings should be treated with rooting hormone and kept in a warm, humid environment until established.
Repot young plants annually in spring, or when they become root-bound. Mature plants can be repotted every 2-3 years. Use a well-draining potting mix, such as a blend of peat, perlite, and compost.
Choose a pot one size larger than the current one.
