Water regularly, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Desmanthus pernambucanus prefers consistently moist soil but can tolerate short dry spells once established.

Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Prune to maintain desired shape and size, and to encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches.

Light pruning can be done anytime, while heavier pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Propagate from seeds, which germinate best after scarification or a period of soaking. Cuttings taken from semi-hardwood in late spring or early summer can also be rooted with the aid of rooting hormone.

Repot young plants annually or biannually in spring as they become root-bound. Mature plants can be repotted every 2-3 years. Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot that is only slightly larger than the previous one.
