Tragopogon X prefers consistently moist soil during its active growth phase, but avoid waterlogging. Reduce watering significantly during dormancy, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

Pruning is typically minimal. Remove spent flower stalks to prevent self-seeding if unwanted, or to improve appearance. Dead or damaged foliage can be trimmed back at any time.

No significant structural pruning is usually necessary.

Tragopogon X is easily propagated by seed sown directly outdoors in autumn or early spring. The seeds require a period of cold stratification. Division of established clumps in early spring is also a viable method.

Repotting is rarely needed for Tragopogon X as it is often grown as a biennial or short-lived perennial. If division is performed, the new divisions can be replanted directly into the garden.
