Pruning is generally not necessary for watermelon. However, removing excess runners can help direct energy into developing fruits.

Focus on allowing the main vines to establish and then allow secondary vines to grow naturally. Pinching back excessive growth on any single vine can be beneficial.

Watermelons are typically propagated by seed. Sow seeds directly into the ground after the last frost when soil temperatures are consistently above 18°C.

Seeds can also be started indoors 3-4 weeks before the last expected frost, but transplant carefully to avoid root disturbance.

Repotting is not applicable as watermelons are grown directly in the ground or in large containers. If starting seeds indoors, transplant seedlings into larger pots if they become root-bound before moving them to their final garden location once temperatures are suitable.
