Wild sesame prefers consistently moist soil during its growth period. Water deeply when the top 2-3 cm of soil feels dry. Avoid waterlogging, especially in cooler temperatures, as this can lead to root rot.

Reduce watering significantly once the plant matures and during its dormant phase.

Minimal pruning is usually required for wild sesame. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to maintain plant health and shape.

Pruning can also be done to encourage bushier growth by pinching back the tips of young shoots. Avoid heavy pruning.

Wild sesame can be propagated by seeds. Sow seeds directly into well-draining soil after the last frost in spring. Alternatively, start seeds indoors a few weeks before the last frost date.

Seedlings are relatively easy to transplant once they have a few true leaves.

Repotting is generally not necessary unless the plant becomes root-bound or is being cultivated in a container. If repotting, choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one.

Do this in early spring before new growth begins, using a fresh, well-draining potting mix.
