Water regularly, allowing the top 2-3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. Ochna kirkii prefers consistently moist soil but dislikes waterlogged conditions.

Reduce watering frequency during cooler, dormant periods to prevent root rot. Ensure good drainage in the pot.

Prune to maintain shape and size, and to encourage bushier growth. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Light pruning can be done after flowering to tidy up the plant.

Heavy pruning is best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Ochna kirkii can be propagated from seeds sown in spring, which may require stratification. Softwood or semi-hardwood cuttings can also be taken in summer.

Use a well-draining rooting medium and provide bottom heat to encourage root development.

Repot young plants annually or every two years in spring, moving them to a slightly larger pot. Mature plants can be repotted every 3-4 years or when root-bound. Use a good quality, well-draining potting mix.

Trim back some of the roots during repotting.
