Watering, pruning, propagation, and repotting details from plant data
Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering significantly in winter, providing just enough to prevent the soil from becoming bone dry.
Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.
Prune lightly in late spring or early summer to maintain shape and remove any dead or crossing branches. This species generally requires minimal pruning.
Avoid heavy pruning as it can stress the plant and affect flowering.
Propagation is typically done by seeds sown in spring, often requiring stratification or scarification to break dormancy. Cuttings are also possible but can be challenging to root successfully.
Use a well-draining seed-starting mix.
Repot young plants every 2-3 years in spring, or when root-bound. Mature plants can be repotted less frequently, perhaps every 4-5 years.
Use a free-draining potting mix and ensure the new pot has adequate drainage holes.
